Throwing my hat into the ring. Putting my name into CIRA for the Board

CIRA LogoI've been involved in the internet so long I can't remember not having an "@" attached to my name.? I've helped build large internet sites and groups of sites.? I've worked inside big companies and small.? So when I got wind from Stuart MacDonald that CIRA (the body that oversees the .ca domain names) was going to be accepting proposals, as it were, for people interested in filling one of the three open board positions, my ears perked up.

A lot is going on right now.? Canada is leading the way, in many respects, in the new Web 2.0 world/paradigm.? While Canada was a little behind the curve in letting the .ca domain be available to the masses, that's changing.? Ads by AdGenta.comI finally have my own, as of today, husseyfamilyDOTca.? I see CIRA as having an important role in the near future.? Down South the concept of Net Neutrality is under threat.? How long before the problems start to come North?? Could Canada have a role in promoting a free Internet?? Could we become a data highway haven?

Regardless, over the next little while I'm going to be putting together my letter/e-mail to CIRA to officially throw my hat into the ring.? No telling if I'll actually make it on the slate for the election or even get elected, but I'm going to try.? Maybe, through this process, I will get connected with others and I can help CIRA in other ways.

    Hi Tris,
Three cheers for your initiative! Though I don't have any influence on the outcome, as I live on the other side of the pond, I still hope they'll put you on the ballot. And then elect you of course!

Thanks Ton! Maybe non-Canadian endorsements will count for something (in the world of Internet opinion).
