How are you? What are you doing now? Honest answers are hard to articulate.

Categories:  Random Bits

Interesting summer, moving to fall now, I’ve been having. The Chinese curse “May you live in interesting times” comes to mind.

Yes, I did finally go on vacation. Something which was long overdue. Yes, the house on Salt Spring was sold, which was a bittersweet moment. Even with those things taken into account, since May-ish things have been interesting.

Which gets me to the title of the post.

Since mid-July, going on vacation and parting ways with b5, I’ve been on what I’ve been calling “hiatus”. Trying to keep a low profile, staying under the radar. Looking at what I want to do, what I love to do, what is going to be the the thing that will ignite my passion. It’s an challenging process to look at what it is what you like to do and what you’re great at doing and see where you fit into the world (unfortunately power-napping doesn’t seem to be a career path).

Has it been hard to lie low?

Funny thing, not really. Sure I’ve been keeping up with folks and what’s going on, but the all out pressure to read, absorb, write, post, tweet, yeah not there.

The thing is though, “hiatus” isn’t a completely honest answer, but it’s the best answer I can give in public. Heck it’s the best answer you’ll get out of me in private as well. Maybe in transition, in flux is more accurate. However I put it I think you can gather things have been changing and challenging and the end point of the changes and challenges, well, might be coming on the horizon.

You might have also gathered that this is a really hard post for me to write. The honest answers are not only too complicated they have become too personal.

Some hard lessons learned this summer.

This is very unlike me. Yes, I walk with a serious maybe preoccupied look on my face now. Although I am also taking time to walk more slowly and watch the world around me more and that is a good thing.

All the above said, I can tell that many of the folks who have asked me how and what I’m doing, are genuinely interested. That does feel good. Maybe bittersweet, but good. I just wish I could say more than “good/okay” and “on hiatus finding the next thing I’m passionate about” when answering.

Guess that’s just how it has to be now.

And in case you’re wondering, yes, I will post when I’ve found that place to be and be passionate about.

Stay tuned is all I can say.
